TRAINING OVERVIEW
It is the mission of SOCALOA to provide the best boy's lacrosse officials in Southern California.
REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFICATION
9+ hours of training for youth
18+ hours of training for CIF High School
Pass NFHS Rules Test
Complete Annual Physical Fitness Test
Complete annual USL Certification requirements
The requirements for youth officiating shall be 9 hours and in order to officiate high school level games a SOCALOA official shall complete at least 18 hours of training annually. In addition, officials who wish to officiate youth games and/or high school level games must pass the NFHS Rules test and complete a physical fitness test annually.
While mandatory for some, ALL training sessions are designed for ALL levels of officials. The session are designed to integrate officials of various levels and facilitate the experience and expertise of all to promote learning for all. Level 3R officials may also assist with training in Sessions 1-4 to obtain training hours and service hours toward USL re-certification.
Below is the breakdown by level of required and optional training. Make sure your total hours equals at least 9 or 18 hrs:
FALL/WINTER SESSIONS:
Annual Meeting/ Classroom Training Session 1 (Mandatory for Levels 1, 2, 3):
November 9, 2022 - 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm (2 hr) and (1 hr Homework assignment)
Classroom Training Session 2 (Mandatory for Level 1):
November 30, 2022 - 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm (2 hr) and (1 hr Homework assignment)
Classroom Training Session 3 (Mandatory for Levels 1, 2):
December 14, 2022 - 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm (2 hr) and (1 hr Homework assignment)
Classroom Training Session 4 (Mandatory for Level 1):
January 11, 2023 - 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm (2 hr) and (1 hr Homework assignment)
NILOA College Official’s Meeting Session 5* (Mandatory for NILOA officials)
TBA, 2022 (3 hr)
Physical Fitness Test / Field Training Skills / Session 6 (Mandatory for Levels 2, 3):
February 1, 2023 - 6:00-8:00 (2 hr) and (1 hr Homework assignment)
Training Assignments:

On-line Training Courses
New Junior and new Level 1 officials must complete the USL on-line Officiating Course entitled, "2023 Boys' Lacrosse Rules Online Course," before Training Session 2.
To take the USL Level 1 Official's On-line class, visit: http://learning.uslacrosse.org. The directions to sign up are on the site. USL membership is required to take the class. Follow the three steps below:

LOCATION
All training Sessions will have virtual and in-person options. We are strongly encouraging and incentivizing a return to in-person training to encourage more discussion and camaraderie. However, we will provide a virtual option for those who cannot make the sessions in-person. Potential sites for sessions are San Juan Capistrano and Bellflower.
